Painting Rose Creek Library

Recently discovering my ability to watercolor, I, naturally wanted to make it twice as hard to do and see if I could still do it. I have a habit of doing this, I think of it as finding my limits, others as a form of self-destruction. I find it hard enough to feel my body, I think when I push myself the exhaustion is all I tend to have a threshold/shut off for.

My next subject dawned on me because of my brilliant librarian sister Caroline, who has always, since childhood, stressed the importance of not dog-earring, or (book) spine-breaking. The world remains extremely uncertain, and I know that libraries offer some of the most essential public services. Beyond just books. Did you know some offer hygiene kits for free? I found that out living out of my car inside the permitter.

I knew I could paint from a picture on my phone because of Pj’s Mart, and various fast food restaurants I’d painted for fun. I wanted to see if I could sit in front of something and paint it. Block it in my mind, find the boarders and see if I could make it all connect. So, can I??

Yes and no. Before I set up outside, I asked Sam, from our local library, if that was cool. I don’t know the rules ’round these parts! And she said yes of course! I got one good day of drawing in. (really just me drawing and re-drawing lines 9000 times.) I also got some reference pictures for the color of everything and several different sun/sky moments to choose from. Then it rained. For a week. And my life kept rolling so I finally gave in, and started finishing my drawing from the pictures and eventually painting it from the same ones.

I was able to finish those and send them off to my dear friends at Peak Printing in Woodstock! Waiting with bated breath to get the prints back! Then I had a health situation happen and I was really out of commission. Still, Brother Ivy got the prints to me while I was in the hospital. My favorite part of all of this is that it turned into a greeting/thank you note for the nurses and doctors I had the pleasure of being treated by.

Once on the mend, I took the next available chance, to get to the Rose Creek Public Library. In order to give them the prints, to give out to the community. (There are limited ones available on site for free and when I can print more I will!)

Anyway! Here it is! Enjoy!
